Amyloid fibrils are fibrillar polypeptide aggregates that occur in a range of debilitating human diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Type II Diabetes and Creutzfeldt-Jakob. The main focus of our research is to study the molecular structure of these fibrils and to elucidate the biochemical principles of their formation. To that end we are using several state of the art biophysical and structural techniques, including FTIR, NMR, X-ray, Cryo Electron Microscopy, CD etc.. Our group moved recently to the Max-Planck Unit "Enzymology of Protein Folding". The Max-Planck Society promotes internationally competitive basic research and provides an excellent working environment. Most advertised positions will be funded by and embedded within the Collaborative Research Centre "States of Proteins with Cell-biological and Medical Relevance" (DFG Sonderforschungsbereich 610).
The Position can be filled immediately. Applicants should be highly motivated and possess a strong background in either chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics or structural biology. Applications should consist of (i) covering letter with the names and contact details of at least two referees (mail, e-mail, telephone), (ii) c.v. and (iii) copies
